Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of our first ever Mid-Career Fellowship program, awarding up to $420,000 over three years. The Mid-Career Fellowship program will become an integral component of our Brilliant Minds program and is designed to support full-time mid-career researchers undertaking high-quality research, and also support and retain talented individuals in the field of brain cancer.
Staggeringly, only 3.5% of mid-career researchers (6 to 15 years post-PhD) will continue their career in research. This results in a bottleneck scenario, whereby the number of talented individuals continuing a career in research drastically decreases over time. Due to the lack of funding and support available, many leave the field to pursue careers in industry, government, or areas outside of science. As such, promising mid-career researchers, their knowledge and skillset, are lost from brain cancer research.
Dr. Hamza Anwer, Head of Research at CBCF says, “We are delighted to launch the Mid-Career Fellowship program to progress innovative research, and urgently needed brain cancer treatments. Promising research continued at the mid-career stage will further add to the goals of improving health outcomes for people impacted by brain cancer and tackling the global challenges of finding a cure.”
Launching the Mid-Career Fellowship program will play an important role in supporting researchers who are at the greatest risk of leaving the field and encourage them to continue a career in brain cancer. The program will provide 3 years of stability for leading mid-career researchers, so they can focus their time on research outputs and driving outcomes for patients. Importantly, the Mid-Career Fellowship program will further contribute to our mission to improve survival and quality of life for patients as part of the global challenge of finding a cure for brain cancer.
The Mid-Career Fellowship program will open to applications on February 4th, 2022.
More information on eligibility and how to apply will be released in the coming weeks in the Funding Opportunities section of our website
