Professor Brandon Wainwright
Professor of Human Molecular Genetics and Director, Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB), The University of Queensland
Brandon Wainwright is the Professor of Human Molecular Genetics and Director, Institute for Molecular Bioscience (IMB) at The University of Queensland. His research group and colleagues were the first to demonstrate the role of the hedgehog signalling pathway in common human cancer, including the common paediatric brain tumour medulloblastoma. He was a founding member of the Human Genome Project and more recently was the Australian representative on the International Cancer Genome Project Establishment Committee. The IMB is the international lead on the ICGC Pancreatic and Ovarian Cancer genome projects. Additionally, he currently serves the Scientific Advisory Boards of a number of cancer genome projects including the MAGIC - Medulloblastoma Advanced Genomics International Consortium, and the Canadian Pediatric Brain Tumor Consortium. Professor Wainwright heads up the laboratory in Queensland for Cure Brain Cancer Foundation (as he did formerly for The John Trivett Foundation).
Translating research findings in both tumour types will have a significant impact on improving the health of all Australians affected by these diseases.
