The Visiting Academic Program was designed as a fellowship program to enhance the research output and calibre of the Cure Brain Cancer Neuro-Oncology Lab at the Lowy Cancer Research Centre, led by A/Prof. Kerrie McDonald. The fellowship program would allow world-leading researchers to visit the Cure Brain Cancer Neuro-Oncology Lab for an extended period and provide valuable mentorship and expertise.

This program supported three visiting academics at the Cure Brain Cancer Neuro-Oncology Lab.
2012, Professor Paul Kleiheus – Emeritus Professor of Neuropathology at the University of Zurich and Director Emeritus of the International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organisation.
2013, Professor Peter Burger – Professor of Pathology, Neurosurgery and Oncology and Director of Surgical Neuropathology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA. Prof. Burger is one of the world’s leading authorities on the classification and diagnosis of tumors of the central nervous system.
2017, Assistant Professor Gary Archer – Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Duke University School of Medicine. Prof. Archer is an expert in the field of immunotherapy for CNS tumours, whose early laboratory studies focused on animal models for preclinical testing of monoclonal antibodies and immunotoxins, as well as cellular and peptide vaccines for the treatment of gliomas. He is the director of the Molecular Products and Cellular Therapies cGMP facility and oversees the production of investigational therapies for patients with brain tumors. Prof. Archer is a leader in the field of immunotherapy for brain cancer patients, publishing over 80 articles.
