Welcoming Professor Bryan W. Day as Our Newest Scientific Advisory Committee Member

Group leader at the Sid Faithfull Brain Cancer Laboratory at QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, Queensland, Co-founder of the Australian Brain Cancer Research Alliance (ABCARA), and recipient of the Foundation’s 2018 infrastructure grant to develop brain cancer models, Professor Bryan Day is our newest Scientific Advisory Committee member.

Cure Brain Cancer Foundation welcomes Professor Bryan Day as its new Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) member. Prof Day is a leading brain cancer expert and is the Co-Founder of ABCARA, and Co-Director of the Children’s Hospital Foundation, Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.  Professor Bryan Day’s appointment strengthens the Foundation’s mission to impartially and proactively support the best research in brain cancer, with the highest chances of success.  

Professor Day has an illustrious career focused on developing the brain tumour and cell culture bank at QIMR Berghofer. Supported by Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, the Q-Cell models have been used in numerous studies globally and have been published in over 40 articles to date. He has more than 3200 career citations and has published over 90 scientific articles directly relating to understanding the biology of and designing and testing new therapies for brain cancer. 

Among Prof Day’s achievements is the characterisation of the receptor EphA3 as a therapeutic target for the most comment and aggressive form of brain cancer; Glioblastoma (GBM). This research has led to clinical testing of a novel EphA3 targeting therapeutic antibody in patients with recurrent brain cancer.

Prof Day is the Chair of the Consortium of Neuro-Oncology Excellence (CNE) and is the Deputy Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Co-Operative Trials Group for Neuro-Oncology (COGNO)and sits on the Steering Committee for Brain Cancer Biobanking Australian (BCBA).
